How do I prepare for a practicum interview?

Practicum interviews are usually less formal than job interviews, but sites are still deciding whether you'll be reliable and easy to supervise. Preparation shows both.

Before the interview

• Study the organization. Read its mission, recent reports, and current programs. Know the population it serves.
• Prepare short stories. Pick two or three examples from classes, jobs, or volunteering that show skills the site needs, such as data work, writing, or community outreach. Describe the situation, what you did, and the result.
• Know your requirements. Be ready to explain your required hours, start and end dates, any deliverables, and what your program needs from a preceptor. Sites appreciate students who understand their own program.
• Know your availability. Have a realistic weekly schedule in mind, including classes and any job.
