How do I use the Logbook week to week?

The logbook works best as a small daily habit plus a short weekly review, not something you catch up on at the end of the month.

Every practicum day (about five minutes)

At the end of each day or work block, fill in the daily activity log:

• The date and hours worked.
• The specific activity, using precise verbs like analyzed, drafted, facilitated, or presented.
• A competency tag for the CEPH competency the work actually demonstrates.
• Whether the activity contributes to a deliverable.

If you did three different things, write three short entries instead of one vague one. "Worked on data" won't help you in week twelve. "Cleaned survey data for the vaccine uptake report" will.

Once a week

• Write the weekly reflection. Use the prompts to note what you learned, a decision you made, or a challenge you worked through. These notes become raw material for your ILE paper.
• Check your competency coverage. Look at which competencies you've tagged and which are still thin, then ask your preceptor about upcoming work that could fill the gaps.
• Get the supervisor sign-off. Bring the logbook to your check-in, or send a quick summary so your preceptor can verify the week. Weekly sign-offs help you avoid the end-of-semester signature chase.

At the midpoint and the end

If you missed some days, restart with your next practicum day. Fill in the missed entries only from sources you can verify, such as your calendar, emails, and saved drafts.
