How do I add my practicum to LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is often the first place a hiring manager or new contact looks you up. Your practicum is real professional experience, so it belongs on your profile as more than a line of coursework.

Where and how to list it

Add it under Experience, not only under Education. Include:

• Title: something accurate and descriptive, such as "MPH Practicum Student, Epidemiology" or "Graduate Intern, Community Health." Don't borrow a staff title you didn't hold.
• Organization: link to the organization's page so its logo appears
• Dates: start and end month
• Description: two or three short lines about what you did and what came of it

Keep the description shorter and more conversational than your resume. Focus on outcomes and the skills a recruiter might search for.

Update the rest of your profile

• Headline: go beyond "MPH Student" with a focus area, such as "MPH candidate focused on maternal health data"
• About section: a few sentences on what you care about and what you're looking for
• Skills: add tools and methods you actually used, like R, REDCap, GIS, or survey design
• Featured: link to public-facing work, such as a published report or presentation, but only if it's cleared for public sharing

Posting about your practicum

A short post when you finish, thanking your site and sharing what you learned, can be a nice touch. Ask your preceptor before naming projects, sharing photos, or describing any results. Some organizations have strict communication policies, especially government agencies and health systems.

Connect with people you met
